Safety & Standards
Yes. All Fragrance2U fragrance oils are formulated without parabens, phthalates, or sulfates.
Yes. Our fragrance oils are vegan.
Yes. Our fragrance oils comply with California Proposition 65 requirements and do not require a warning.
We do not use any ingredients derived from animals. Additionally, we have NEVER and will NEVER test our products on animals.
Some commonly used ingredients may carry legacy animal-testing data from the companies that originally developed them. When applicable, this information is disclosed in Section 11 of the product’s Safety Data Sheet.
Fragrance oils can be used safely when they are incorporated into a finished product according to the applicable IFRA usage limits.
Each fragrance has different approved usage levels depending on what you are making. You can find these limits by visiting the product page and selecting Usage Details.
Complete IFRA and SDS documentation is also available by selecting See IFRA/SDS on the product page.
Fragrance oil should not be applied directly to the skin or used undiluted.
IFRA stands for the International Fragrance Association. IFRA establishes standards for the safe use of fragrance ingredients in finished products.
An IFRA certificate lists the maximum amount (not recommended amount) of a fragrance oil that may be used in different product categories, such as candles, soap, perfume, lotion, and room spray.
Always know the limit for the specific product you are making.
A Safety Data Sheet, or SDS, explains how to safely handle, store, and work with the concentrated fragrance oil.
The SDS includes information such as:
- Ingredient and hazard classifications
- Safe handling and storage guidance
- First-aid measures
- Spill and fire procedures
- Transportation information
An SDS tells you how to work safely with the raw fragrance oil, while an IFRA certificate tells you how much fragrance oil can safely be used in a finished product.
Read our complete guide to IFRA certificates and Safety Data Sheets.
SDS warnings describe potential hazards associated with the concentrated, undiluted fragrance oil. They do not necessarily describe the finished candle, soap, perfume, or body product when the fragrance is used correctly.
Read our complete guide to understanding an SDS.
Product Use
Our fragrance oils can be used in a wide variety of scented products, including:
- Candles and wax melts
- Cold process and melt-and-pour soap
- Body lotions, creams, and butters
- Fine fragrance and perfume
- Room and linen sprays
- Reed diffusers
- Household cleaning products
- And more!
Not every fragrance has the same maximum usage level for every application. Always review the product’s IFRA certificate before formulating.
We also recommend testing each fragrance in your specific wax, soap base, body-care formula, or other application before beginning full production.
All Fragrance2U fragrance oils are compounded in the United States.
Our fragrance oils are filled by weight rather than volume.
Fragrance oils have different densities, so two bottles containing the same net weight may have different fill levels. A lower fill level does not mean that you received less product.
We are updating our labels to include the maximum IFRA usage information.
During this transition, you may receive bottles with either our previous or updated label design. The fragrance inside has not changed.
All Fragrance2U fragrances are custom formulations created exclusively for our catalog.
We do not sell direct duplicates of fine fragrances or products from other fragrance oil suppliers. A small number of our fragrances may share core notes or a general scent direction with popular market products, but each has been reinterpreted with our own fragrance structure and creative twist. In those cases, it is disclosed under the “You’ll love it if…” section of the product listing page.
Cold Process Soap Testing
Yes. All of our fragrance oils can be used in cold process soap.
Fragrance oil may affect the way soap batter behaves, so we test every fragrance in a standard cold process soap formula. Testing notes are published on the individual product page.
We use the following standard soap formula:
- 40% olive oil
- 35% coconut oil, 76-degree
- 20% palm oil
- 5% castor oil
- 2:1 water-to-NaOH ratio
- Poured between 90°F and 100°F
We evaluate each fragrance for:
- Acceleration: Whether the fragrance causes the batter to thicken or set more quickly.
- Ricing: Whether the fragrance causes the batter to develop a grainy or lumpy texture.
- Scent retention: The strength of the fragrance in the finished soap after a six-week cure.
- Color: The color of the finished soap after curing.
The fragrance percentage tested, results, and any additional observations are listed on the product page.
Results may vary depending on your recipe, additives, temperatures, mixing method, and fragrance percentage. We recommend completing your own small test batch before full production.
Ingredients & Storage
Upcycling in fragrance involves transforming by-products, waste materials, or unused materials from other processes into high-quality fragrance ingredients.
For example, materials left over from food, agricultural, wood, or botanical processing may be refined and given a second use in fragrance. This can reduce waste while creating distinctive scent profiles.
Read more about upcycled fragrance ingredients here.
Natural content refers to fragrance ingredients derived directly from plants or other natural sources through approved physical processes, rather than ingredients created entirely through chemical synthesis.
The natural ingredients included in a fragrance are listed on the product page and on Page 1 of the combined SDS and IFRA documentation.
A fragrance containing natural ingredients is not necessarily 100% natural. Most modern fragrance oils combine natural and synthetic materials to achieve the desired scent, performance, stability, and safety profile.
Read more about natural ingredients here.
Vanillin is an aromatic component found naturally in vanilla. It may also be produced for use in fragrance formulations.
Vanillin can cause candles, soap, and body-care products to darken or discolor over time. This color change does not mean that the fragrance oil has gone bad and does not negatively affect the scent.
Use the Vanillin-Free filter on our website to view fragrances formulated without vanillin.
Fragrance oils remain usable for a year when stored properly, and many last considerably longer.
For the best shelf life:
- Store bottles in a cool, dark location
- Keep them away from heat and direct sunlight
- Close caps tightly after use
- Avoid introducing water or other materials into the bottle
Changes in color are not always a sign that a fragrance has expired. Vanillin, natural materials, and other fragrance ingredients may naturally darken over time.
